Loved this one, you’re a rock star! Is it as weird as I feel like it is that the Ayton/Mikal extensions (and to a lesser degree the JaVale contract) haven’t been announced yet after the CP3 deal came in so quickly? Am I right that those are the only expected extensions that haven’t been announced yet from their class? Wondering if that’s helping you feel like JJ is up to something.
JaVale - My guess here is that given he's their 'high profile' signing of FA, they want him in PHX to do all the press etc after signing. Given he's just got back from Tokyo & his signing doesn't impact anything else, it's just a timing thing.
Ayton - Expected this done by now but also see he's in the Bahamas. Similar to JaVale.
Bridges - This could drag on as there is a bit more to negotiate on either side.
I'd like to see them all done soon but no real bearing on what I wrote about tbh
So great! I hope you’re right again! I did have a question for maybe you and Max to discuss: Recently I’ve talked myself into trading some combination of Mikal and more for Siakam. I know Mike and Sam discussed this on their pod, but for some reason the thought continues. Maybe a broader question would be what would the caliber of player need to be on the returning end to trade Mikal, Johnson, DA, or any combination? For the record (can’t say this on Twitter lol), I’d be more comfortable trading Mikal and/or Johnson than DA
Separate question: What do you think about the team’s overall strategy around its future? I feel like some of the teams that are great for long stretches of time continually find ways to bring in new talent (draft, stash, global signings, reclamation projects) to fit their system and thrive; I think of the Spurs here. We certainly accomplished this with Cam Payne, however, JJ said something a few years ago that hinted being disinterested in the draft which prompted a reaction from a portion of the fan base (probably due to our conditioning to *only* fixate on development). My question is this: I don’t think we’ve struck a strong balance between winning now and places a few eggs in the future basket, am I wrong for thinking about the future this early into our window or should we be doing more?
Since you are the master of the data, I am really interested in what the numbers say of where you get more value, an actual drafted player that hits (relatively) or a draft pick. My question centers around the idea of JJ not valuing players in the draft and so he trades picks. Maybe it just happened because it was necessary for CP3. Put simply are you more likely to get strong role players you need for an undrafted pick or from a promising talent you picked?
Or, when they have plateaued and someone gives up on them, then a change of scenery results in a tick in their development? I think there is something interesting about a highly rated prospect desperate enough to stay in the league that he will accept a role and bust his tail to excel at it (ie: CP15) vs the crap shoot of drafting.

My prediction is the Cavs buyout Love (2 yrs left at $60.2M) for $48M. Suns sign him to a 2 year deal (9.3M) using the remaining MLE.
