You can only have two designated rookie extensions (5 year deals) on the roster at once. If they sign Ayton to his max, that will mean they have Booker and Ayton already. So Bridges gets the slightly reduced 4 year extension. 8% raises are the most you can give any pending FA who you own Bird Rights on.
What sort of worry is there that Payne will go with a slightly higher bidder? Seems there are teams desperately needing a starting point guard or to upgrade their backup? This is probably a what does the market look like question.
There's always going to be a small worry. "It only takes one asshole" is a line that I often use when it comes to Free Agency. At this stage, I think the choice to keep Payne will be with the Suns & whether they are happy to pay $10mil a year. I'd be surprised if he goes elsewhere for more than that. The end of the Playoffs hurt his stock a little bit imo but we shall see.
Thx. Weird market on demand side this summer where otherwise decent teams need to upgrade at pg and might gamble on anyone better than Ish Smith. Usually it’s not so much more money for guys at this level. Instead, it is role and pt, so I think we keep him.
What does the team do if Cp3 oops out and signs elsewhere
They would become a Cap Space team most likely. Have somewhere around $25-$28mil to spend on the open market.
Why does Bridges extension can only be for 4 extra years & with 8% raises?
